Empower your driving skills today

Our mission at 'Improve Your Reaction Times' is to equip drivers with the knowledge and tools to enhance their reaction times significantly. We focus on providing practical tips and resources to ensure your safety on the road.

So, what are reaction times and why are they important for drivers?

Reaction time refers to the interval between when a stimulus is presented and when a response is initiated. It essentially measures how quickly a person can react to something happening around them.

Reaction times are crucial for drivers because they directly affect how quickly a person can respond to unexpected events on the road- like a pedestrian stepping out, a car braking suddenly or debris appearing. A slower reaction time means a longer stopping distance, which increases the risk of collisions and reduces overall road safety.

Why should you keep your reaction times up to date?

Some of the main causes for road accidents are speeding, intoxication, fatigue distraction and much more. All these causes for road accidents decrease your reactions significantly when driving. For example driving above the speed limit dramatically increases a vehicle’s stopping distance and reduces a driver’s reaction time, greatly enhancing the risk of severe accidents. If someone has quick reactions, they are a bit safer, even if they've been drinking, compared to someone who doesn't react quickly and has been drinking.

Studies have shown that after peaking at 24 years old, reaction time declines between 4 and 10 milliseconds per year, depending on the type of activity measured, this is why it is crucial for older drivers to maintain quick reaction times.

How cognitive brain training exercises improve your reaction times

Cognitive training exercises can improve reaction time by enhancing the brain's ability to process information and make quick decisions, ultimately leading to faster and more accurate responses to stimuli. This is achieved through neuroplasticity, where the brain forms new connections and strengthens existing ones as a result of the training. By repeatedly engaging in these exercises, the brain becomes more efficient at anticipating and responding to different stimuli, leading to quicker reaction times.

Physical, auditory and visual reaction times are most needed when driving. By completing cognitive brain training exercises in these 3 senses for 1-2 mins each per day for 2 weeks drivers reaction times will have improved significantly

Improve physical reaction time

Practice one of these fun and easy cognitive training exercises for your physical reaction times for 1-2minutes per day for two weeks to see a significant improvement in your reaction times.

Follow this link for an example of a ruler drop exercise. Get someone to drop a ruler above your hand and catch it as fast as you can a few times.

Follow this link for an example of a ball drop test. Get someone to drop a ball/s and catch them as fast as you can.

Improve visual reaction time

Practice one of these fun and easy cognitive training exercises for your visual reaction times for 1-2minutes per day for two weeks to see a significant improvement in your reaction times.

Follow this link to take part in a start timer visual cognitive brain training exercise. Tap your devices screen as fast as you can when all the traffic lights go out.

Follow this link to play a start stop game to improve your visual reaction time. Press start and press stop as soon as the game tells you to.

Improve auditory reaction time

Practice one of these fun and easy cognitive training exercises for your auditory reaction times for 1-2minutes per day for two weeks to see a significant improvement in your reaction times.

Follow this link to take part in an auditory cognitive brain training exercise. touch the screen to start the game and as soon as you hear the sound play on the game press the screen as fast as you can.

Follow this link for another auditory game. Press go, and when you hear the sound press stop as soon as you can.
